Basikalu are strings attached to a pendant like thing in the middle. It is usually tied on the foreheads of the bride & groom.

Why? Garika muntha (Wedding pots):

Garika Muntha or Earthen wedding pots, are beautiful & traditionally hand-painted with lime, they are mandated across all the weddings in many cultures in India. The Garika muntha when kept in the wedding is considered as the divine presence of Goddess Gowri devi herself. In few cultures, especially in Telangana, the Bride carries a Garika Muntha instead of carrying Tender coconut unlike other brides, while she enters the wedding Mandap. Garika Muntha is also used as a ritual during Arundati nakstram occasion where the groom shows the bride the stars representing Arundhati and Vasistha holding Garika Muntha filled with water. The bride and groom would first exchange garlands & then bride and the groom shower each others heads with talambralu (pearls, thermocol balls, or rice coloured by turmeric paste).

Chekka bomma (Dolls of brides):

Chekka bomma or wooden doll of bride in a marriage, they are beautiful little pieces that are made of wood and painted draped with little attires.

It is used when the bride is leaving from the mandap to her in laws place, they tie a small bag of rice and give it to her to carry along as she is going alone to the new place,so the chekka booma is also placed into the bag to accompany her to her next step of life.

Pellikuthuru Gampa (Basket to carry the bride):

Every marriage has unique traditions attached to it.

This is pellikuthuru gampa, Pellikuthuru means The bride, and Gampa means Basket.

It is a basket thats beautifully decorated, in various designs like lotus, peacock and more which is used to carry the bride from the entrance into the mandap by her uncles.

As per the Hindu mythology, a man is forbidden to perform his religious duties without a woman by his side, this is way arrival of the new bride to the husbands place is celebrated as its auspicious, as she is referred as saubhagyavathi, who brings in good fortune, peace and fortune to the household.

As per Hindu tradition, a groom is considered as Lord Vishnu and hence the bride is seen as goddess Lakshmi, the family of the bride does kanyadhanto the groom's family as per the customs.

So, the daughter who as seen as Lakshmi is given as a good fortune to the grooms family, Hence the gift thats given like a good fortune needs to be given in a vessel, hence they carry the bride in pellikuthuru gampa by her family as a part of the kanyadhan.

Kasi yatra is a fun ritual where the groom wears his slippers and leaves to kasi, with minimal clothing and an umbrella.
